Updated Paver Report By John Mulder
There have been many concerns about the pavers being bumpy.
The pavers we are considering are “Not bumpy” and are in fact smooth as concrete.
Stains seem to be another concern, along with problems when work needs to be done on water lines, cable lines, etc.
The nice thing about pavers is you can replace them easily without having to do patch jobs. We would keep extra pavers on hand to handle these problems.
Stained pavers from oil could simply be picked up and replaced most often by our own maintenance man Tim. Bigger problems such as sewer lines would also be much easier to repair or replace.
The biggest advantage to pavers, aside from the fact they look much nicer and are easier to repair is their longevity.
With the cost of Oil going up, the cost to replace blacktop is not only going to continually rise but so is the cost to repair the asphalt every few years. The cost today of putting in blacktop is substantially higher than when the road was originally installed.
Pavers virtually eliminate these messy and costly repairs.

After months of deliberation about pavers vs. asphalt we installed pavers on our driveway in Los Angeles. WE ARE THRILLED with the appearance and practicality on our steep winding driveway. We have had asphalt for many years and the maintenance is ongoing for a cheap looking finish. I never thought I would feel pride about a driveway(!) but so many people have expressed compliments on it that we are certain it was the best decision. My first recommendation is to get the best company available because proper installation is critical. I would also recommend that if pavers are agreed upon, the color selection is crucial. Too much red may be "hot" on the eyes and too much variation in colors (light to dark) will be too "busy". Stick with muted shades and a pattern that is not too dizzying. Our greys and beiges look very elegant and natural. If you consider that ancient Roman pavers are still in use today, this "fix" makes a lot of sense. It also frees us from the petroleum consumption used in the asphalt. We would be happy to recommend our contractors who have been in the business for a very long time: "Pacific Pavingstone".
